I just feel the need to write something.I knew Larry for most of my life.He always made me happy when I saw him. He always had a new trick to show me,a new game to play. We had this drawing game: I would draw a head and feet then he'd cover them up and draw the body and we would make Ballet dancing girraffes and cat clowns. He always made my brother and I smile and we always had a hug for him. I loved Larrry.

Where's this one from good people - RUGBY -These are the faces that fill your all night dream; These are the faces that spurred you as a team. These are the moments that raised you from the dead, These are the feelings when your hand is full of bread. No resting on your morrows, With anger shown around, New mountains to be conquered, New energies to be found. In Wales we dance for poets, When words and movements meet, And revel in the magic of mermen weaving feet....

I was hosted by Larry on Feb 27 2011 and it was simply magical to know him. He was kind, generous, sensitive and I loved every minute in his company. In my reference I left on CouchSurfing I wrote:
"Larry was a wonderful person and host who deligted me with his piano performance and his candid, warm and funny stories. To add to it all he mesmerized me with great magic and lovely cooking. I left his place sad and hoping that my newly made friendship will continue forever. Thank you dear Larry for being you! Hope to see you soon on Skype :)"
I am devastated for losing Larry. I miss him.

I meet Larry on the Trademe web site a few years ago. He said he was becoming a NZ citizen and I helped his find a shirt for his big day. In return he made my daughter the most beautiful hand made book, which she still has and loves. A wonderful wonderful man. I am sorry for your loss Bonnie.

Thank you for your dignified and well-researched tribute to John. Like the poem above, his focus was on giving, but passing on the credit. Regardless of Wellington's weather, he saw his mission as giving his best to the young people of Courtenay Place, encouraging or warning, inspiring and bringing joy to them. Many laughed with him, some laughed at him, but he could readily laugh at himself.
How many poets take the risk of nightly eye contact with those they write for?
Not being able to afford specialist help, he continued to give himself for the youngsters he saw as our future, until his cup was empty.
Your tribute was hard-earned. Thank you.

The Poetry Archive is a marvellous concept and achievement - long needed and at last here. My congratulations to all and to Nelson Wattie for his perspicacious analysis of the significance of poetry and of the failure of The Culture capitalists and controllers to either recognise the importance of poetry or the width of its extant in the community.
